A doctor with extensive experience, he was the first in Lithuania to introduce new diagnostic and treatment methods: coeliac disease diagnosis, a children's liver transplantation programme, home parenteral nutrition and faecal transplantation in children. Actively involved in the work of the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN), he participates in working groups that prepare multicentre studies and disease diagnosis and treatment recommendations for European and global physicians.

Awards

Knight's Cross of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas.

Medal of Commemoration of 13 January.

First prize of the Vilnius Medical Society (1995).

Award for the best poster presentations at the 1st World Congress of Paediatricians (USA) and at European Gastroenterology Week (Switzerland).

As a co-author, awarded the Ministry of Education and Science prize for Volume II of the textbook "Children's Diseases" (2004).

The doctor is a laureate of the first and third Vilnius Medical prizes. His presentations have also been awarded at international conferences: the 1st World Congress of Paediatricians in 2000 in Boston (USA) and European Gastroenterology Week (UEGW) in 2002 in Geneva (Switzerland).
