ECHOSCOPY is a painless and harmless diagnostic examination, also known as an ultrasound examination. Ultrasound waves penetrate air and bone weakly, but very well through fluids, parenchymal organs and soft tissues. When an ultrasound wave meets an obstacle (the surface of another medium), it refracts. The reflected and scattered waves are recorded by special sensors. The image is observed on a screen.
At AND klinika we perform ultrasound (echoscopy) of the internal organs:
- the liver (cysts, tumours and metastases, changes in liver structure and size, etc.); portal vein pathology is detected.
- the gallbladder and bile ducts (gallbladder and bile-duct growths, changes in duct diameter and shape, gallbladder inflammation, etc.).
Preparation: It is recommended not to eat for about 4 hours before the examination.
- the motor function of the gallbladder (more often in children).
Preparation: No special preparation is required.
- pathology of the pancreas and spleen.
Preparation: For 1 day before the examination, it is recommended to avoid foods that cause bloating (dark bread, apples, pears, beer, etc.).
- abdominal aorta pathology.
Preparation: About 8 hours before the examination, take medication to reduce bloating.
Ultrasound of the urinary production and excretion system, the genital organs and the kidneys determines the condition of these organs and any pathological changes:
- testicular pathology;
- the condition of the blood circulation in the vessels of the penis;
- prostate pathology (benign prostatic hyperplasia, adenoma, cancer);
Preparation: Drink fluids and do not urinate, because it is very important that the bladder is full before the examination.
- kidney pathology (cysts, tumours, hydronephrosis, anomalies of kidney position and size, etc.);
- the condition of the blood circulation in the renal vessels (narrowed renal vessels are often a cause of arterial hypertension);
- bladder pathology;
- the condition of the female genital organs (uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes).
An ultrasound examination in pregnant women:
- diagnoses early pregnancy;
- examines the development and growth of the foetus and detects developmental defects.
A breast ultrasound examination detects mastopathy, cysts and tumours.
A thyroid ultrasound examination detects thyroid growths, cysts, and changes in structure and size.
Cardiac ultrasound examinations: echocardioscopy and Doppler examination of cardiac blood flow determine the condition of the heart valves, the contractile force of the heart muscle, the sizes of the heart chambers and changes in the heart muscle.
A joint ultrasound examination determines the condition of tendons and ligaments and joint diseases, and assesses whether fluid has accumulated in them.
An eye ultrasound examination detects myopia, retinal detachment, glaucoma and other eye diseases.
A head ultrasound examination in newborns and infants detects developmental anomalies, the consequences of birth trauma, etc.
