Aesthetic filling is a dental restoration method whose aim is not only to restore lost function, but also to precisely reproduce the natural colour, shape and surface translucency of the tooth and the individual features of the hard tissues. This filling method is used in the front-tooth area for caries damage, old low-quality or unaesthetic fillings, changes in tooth colour, to restore chipped and worn teeth and to mask the “lengthened” teeth of patients with periodontal diseases. In some cases, aesthetic filling is a good alternative for correcting a smile when teeth have erupted irregularly in the row and their shape and size need improving and gaps need closing. However, it is a mistake to think that after aesthetic filling the restoration will remain invisible forever. Although the materials used for aesthetic filling are close in their physical and chemical properties to natural tooth tissues, because the filling material wears faster, the restoration eventually becomes matt, so the teeth must be polished periodically to renew the shine and glow of their surface. It is advisable to do this twice a year together with professional oral hygiene.
