“You should see an orthopaedist-traumatologist when, for no apparent reason, you feel discomfort when moving, joint or muscle pain, swelling or limited movement, and also when you notice developing limb deformities or flat feet, or have suffered an injury,” advises orthopaedist-traumatologist Dovydas Prascevičius.
Quite often various muscle and bone diseases and deformities develop that are not related to injuries. They are caused by age-related changes, tumours, inflammations, metabolic disorders, stress, excess weight, too much or too little physical activity, poor diet and many other causes. All of this is investigated and analysed by the branch of medicine called orthopaedics-traumatology. The specialists working at AND KLINIKA can establish a diagnosis quickly and accurately and prescribe the necessary treatment in time, so that the healing processes begin as soon as possible.
For which complaints can you book an orthopaedist-traumatologist consultation at AND KLINIKA?
- pain in the joints and bones;
- inflammatory joint diseases;
- dislocations, ligament sprains and tears;
- carpal tunnel syndrome;
- long-untreated or poorly healed fractures;
- osteoarthritis;
- deformities;
- flat feet;
- infections and other pathologies of the bones, tendons, ligaments and muscles.
Which treatment methods does orthopaedics-traumatology use?
When needed, AND KLINIKA specialists can perform an ultrasound during the consultation or order X-ray or magnetic resonance examinations. Depending on the diagnosis, injections into joints or tendons, punctures and the injection of medication, dislocation reduction and PRP therapy may be performed. Recommendations and advice on lifestyle changes during and after healing are also provided. In some cases surgical treatment may also be required (for surgical treatment we will issue a referral or recommendation).
What is PRP therapy?
PRP is platelet-rich plasma (an abbreviation of the English “Platelet-Rich Plasma”) that promotes healing. This is an advanced treatment method used in many fields of medicine. Plasma is a blood component containing proteins that help the blood clot and stimulate cell growth. After a PRP injection into the damaged tissues, the body is stimulated to grow new, healthy cells. Orthopaedics-traumatology uses PRP therapy as a way to speed up the healing processes of tendon and joint disorders and some muscle sprains.
PRP therapy is a fast and safe procedure. The specialist takes a sample of the patient's blood and places it in a centrifuge, which spins rapidly to separate the required blood components. This process takes about 15 minutes. The extracted blood plasma is then prepared and administered as an injection into the damaged area.
