Do we want to age, or to take care of ourselves?

Dry skin, the formation of wrinkles, skin withering like an apple peel, loss of firmness. All this is unavoidable. Ageing spares neither men nor women, but for those who don't want to accept it, specialist doctors can help. Various questions from patients concerned about their skin are answered by

Doctor of medical sciences and dermatovenereologist Jūratė Garbaravičienė.

How do you keep from getting lost among the beauty-industry technologies flooding the whole world, the medical innovations, the beauty injections under ever-different names, the rejuvenation procedures with acid peels, and the offering of the cosmetics industry's products? For a long time science has been looking for answers to the question of whether we are capable of fighting time and whether we can at least slightly slow the ageing processes. A time comes when our skin needs specialist care, and it's no secret – perhaps even beauty injections and a maintenance-therapy ANTI-AGING cosmetics line. The term biorevitalisation was first used in 2001 by the Italian scientists Di Pietro and Di Sante, who during experiments established that fibroblast division begins only under these conditions: the hyaluronic acid must be non-stabilised; the molecular mass of the hyaluronic acid (the length of the chain molecule) must be 1 million daltons; the concentration of hyaluronic acid in the product must be greater than 15 mg/ml; the preparation must be viscoelastic (remaining in the skin for 10–14 days). If even one of these conditions isn't met, the fibroblasts don't divide, which means the biorevitalisation effect – during which skin rejuvenation takes place and the ageing processes slow – isn't achieved. If the hyaluronic acid concentration is lower than 15 mg/ml, the fibroblasts are activated and the skin is moisturised, but that isn't enough for the biorevitalisation (natural renewal) processes to begin.
