The neck vessel examination that saves thousands of patients
Health examinations carried out in time can be a salvation from dangerous diseases. There are all sorts of health examinations. The importance of some is priceless, since they help save the lives of thousands of patients. One of these is neck vessel ultrasound. The examination is recommended if:
- you often suffer from head and neck pain
- you feel dizzy
- you have ringing in the ears
- your coordination is impaired
- your limbs go numb
- your speech is impaired
- you have high cholesterol
- you have a raised triglyceride level in the blood
- you suffer from high blood pressure
- you have diabetes
- you are overweight
Neck vessel ultrasound. Neck vessel ultrasound is a precise, safe and painless examination that helps diagnose disorders of the neck vessels and of blood flow to the brain. This examination can protect against such terrible consequences as a stroke. Stroke is an insidious disease that strikes as many as one in six people. By reacting to health problems in time, a stroke can be avoided. So the first and perhaps most important step to help prevent a stroke or dangerous vascular diseases is neck vessel ultrasound. For people over 60 the examination is recommended every six months, even when no unpleasant symptoms are present. Heavy smokers should also be checked more often, because smoking greatly increases the risk of vascular disease.
How does it work? The principle of the examination is the same as for any other ultrasound. Preparation for the examination is very short and simple: the patient lies down, and the area being examined is coated with a special gel so that the clearest, highest-quality image possible appears on the screen. High-frequency waves emitted by the ultrasound probe enter the vessels. The waves reflect an image back to the probe, which is transferred to the screen. During the examination the doctor analyses the condition of the vessels: the degree of narrowing can be determined, clots detected, the intensity of blood flow observed and other important information gathered. Having assessed the condition of the neck vessels, the doctor may, if needed, refer you for other, additional examinations. Whatever your age and whatever lifestyle you follow, medics encourage you to take every signal your body sends seriously, because it can be a sign of serious diseases from which none of us is protected. Neck vessel ultrasound is a fast and very simple way to make sure your health isn't at risk.
