What are the advantages of an electric toothbrush?
Brushing teeth is a routine daily process that in a sense we perform automatically. It's important to know that the effectiveness of brushing depends not only on how regular the process is, but also on its quality. 1. More effective plaque removal. The rotating head of an electric toothbrush makes as many movements per unit of time as it is physically impossible to make with an ordinary brush. Moreover, almost all modern brushes work on the basis of 2D technology, which means the brush head doesn't just rotate but also makes oscillating-rotating movements that improve the quality of brushing several times over. More advanced electric-toothbrush models also feature 3D technology, thanks to which pulsation supplements the standard mode, removing pigmented plaque and bacteria between the teeth quite effectively. It should be noted that electric brushes make it possible to clean all parts of the teeth equally well, thanks to the uniform force applied.
2. Saving time and toothpaste
Are teeth really being brushed for the strictly recommended 3–5 minutes? Most people who are always in a hurry probably shorten the brushing process. In two minutes (the recommended time) an electric toothbrush will clean the teeth so well that to achieve the same result the traditional way you would have to work the brush for no less than an hour! You need only run your tongue over your teeth after brushing to feel the incredible smoothness.
As for toothpaste use, it's known that a pea-sized amount is enough for brushing, yet very often it is generously squeezed over the whole brush. On the small head of an electric toothbrush you simply won't be able to fit much toothpaste.
3. Gentle cleaning
The horizontal movements of an ordinary toothbrush not only clean the gaps between teeth poorly but also damage the enamel. The careful oscillating-rotating movements of electric toothbrushes not only clean the teeth well but also do them no harm. Moreover, regarding that uniform force, it should be noted that some models have a pressure sensor and can detect when you are pressing too hard. This feature effectively protects the gums and enamel. For more effective and maximally gentle cleaning, you can use irrigators, which deliver water with air bubbles into the mouth. The jet of water massages the gums and removes food residue excellently.
4. Replaceable heads
Electric toothbrushes, like traditional ones, come with different bristle stiffness – that is, not the brushes themselves but their replaceable heads. Medium-stiffness bristles probably suit most people for daily brushing, but if your gums are sensitive you can easily find a much softer head. Note that special heads with soft polishing pads for teeth whitening are also available. Of course, using such heads constantly is not recommended, as it can damage the tooth enamel. Another advantage of replaceable electric-toothbrush heads is that they are very compact and don't take up much space.
5. For adults and children alike
For adults, electric toothbrushes will help save a good deal of time and ensure quality brushing. For children, on top of the points above, it will also be interesting to learn to use the new device. Perhaps, thanks to an electric toothbrush, they'll manage to develop the habit of brushing regularly and thoroughly. It should be noted that some toothbrushes have a timer that signals when the recommended brushing time has been used up. In other models, music plays while brushing, so the long minutes of brushing pass even more quickly and cheerfully. Children's electric toothbrushes are usually smaller in size, lighter and colourful.
